Theft in VailleDreven, Shadokhan - Barwin Commer, famed Falconer of Vaille, woke up to a horrible sight on the 3rd of Fadefrost. Some pilferer had forcefully broken into his Mews during the course of the night and caused havoc amongst his equipment and the sleeping birds. His apprentice, Thoren Rudger, was found lying amongst torn up hoods and broken perches, beaten senseless by the intruders. Mater Commers told us Thoren will recover from his wounds and hopefully be able to aid in the search for the intruders. Master Commer reports a stolen Sparrowhawk, Merlin and worst of all a Rock Falcon which was being trained for the upcoming hunting season. He refrained from naming the Dreven Noble the bird was intended for. A four Goldpiece reward has been posted for any information leading to the arrest the thief or thieves and it will be doubled if the birds are recovered unharmed. Klockwork Saves the DayDalton, Luminii - Once again the brave forces of the Klockwork Army protects the citizens. Just a short time ago a ragaband gang of desert thieves rode from the sand to attack the sleeping town of Dalton. Dalton is located north of Damansque, just south of the Thermador border. These thieves and killer attacked at daylight, galloping through the innocent people of the village. They left a path of destruction, houses burned, livestock slaughtered. Attempting the steal the town riches, fair women, and children, this mass of murders attacked the fort and the respectable home of Mayor Biglesy. Lucky for the villagers the Klockwork Army was there to defend them. Against odds the brave soldiers fought off the raiders with effective discipline and intelligence. The status of the village, the damages and deaths, are not known at this time but one eyewitness, Evri, a farmers wife, reported to authorities the horrors of the battle. "It was just terrible," she said, "They grabbed me and I was afraid for my girls and my chickens." A Klockwork Solider saved Evri. Although the Klockwork has the area under control they do advise citizens to reframe from traveling to northern Luminii in fear these unruly raiders will attack again. For the protection of all, the town of Dalton will be tightly controlled and visitors are forbidden. The local druid predicts stormy weather with the coming of Tidewarm. Low-lying areas should expect flooding. Things look up towards the end of Blossombud, when sunny days and warmer nights are expected with a mild wind blowing from the Southwest. |
Warehouse SabotageDreven, Shadokhan- On 26 Fadefrost 1273, near midnight, a large group of brigands invaded a waterfront warehouse in Dreven's River District. Their intent appears to have been simply to destroy the supplies stored there as nothing seems to have been taken. Much of the damage seems to have been caused by the fires set by the raiding thugs. A young woman who witnessed the event as she passed by on her way home from work stated. "What's this city coming to when a girl can't be safe on the road any more!" Two of the guarding soldiers lost their lives while defending the woman during the attack. A second witness swears he saw a dog leaving the scene of the crime, though his state of intoxication leaves his report highly suspect. Several merchants present in the warehouse at the time of the attack will be held for questioning, though as of yet, no charges have yet been brought. Our hearts go out to the poor men who lost their lives defending the warehouse and our citizens. The actual number of brigands who died is yet unknown. A search is in process to locate the few surviving attackers. Birth AnnouncementLord Sherakai dan

Bab's GossipWord has spread of Lord Eustace Kelwin's good will with his opening of a new children's home. To be dubbed 'Kelwin's Home for Children', the former brothel is being overhauled and refitted to accommodate approximately twenty of our city's lucky orphans. Talk of tutors and other such fine amenities is going the rounds. Lord Kelwin is quite enthusiastic about his plans for "apprenticing" these poor unfortunates into a viable workforce. Who was that woman seen with one of Society's hottest catches? Drystan Setalin, oldest son of UMA's Premier, was accompanied by a brunette beauty this mid-winter's festivites. Though her name remains elusive, has she taken one of our most eligible bachelor off the market? On a more local level, new faces hired at the Crosswinds Tavern are luring in new customers. Once a focal point, the tavern seems to have fallen into disrepute. Will this change of scenery help? Or will the owner(s) need to employ more alluring tactics? Only time will tell. Where, by the way, is the Crosswinds' lovely Mistress Zharyka Jelahldoran, last seen running for her life with her tail tucked between her legs? Rumor has it that the elf lass has made off with more than the silver. Also missing is the curious and allegedly dangerous golem that was mysteriously 'stored' there. Her interests seem to have turned from her beloved tavern to perhaps a more... receptive diversion. |
Letter to the EditorDear Sirs, It has become my considered opinion of late that the editors of this paper must spend their time with little to do but play in the ink. WHile your reporting has painted a picture of bliss throughout the lands, the truth is much further from that. As business called me to Luminii, I was shocked to be accosted at the Morgaine Pass by men that were little more than bandits. My belongings were riffled through and my wagon and travel companion questioned and all but stripped in the bitter mountain cold. I was more shocked to see these men again, on my trip back to Dreven, and they seemed to be even more well armed. These men were not soldiers and would never tell me of what they sought. As if this was not bad enough, in passing through the woods I saw the bodies of soldiers! What if my children as seen these horribly disfigured remains lying about as if this were Balthazor? Who has the gall to attack the soldiers that keep the peace? Why have I not heard of this band of miscreants being brought to justice? Is it possible that those in Taysayad do not care of our safety as long as they are safe in the fortress walls? I was more shocked to hear some word of the very town in Luminii I had traveled to being over taken by rebels! Why are there thugs garrisoned at the Morgaine Pass without a marking of the government on them and no legion being sent to save the poor citizens of this beset little town? What is Taysayad doing about these new coins that are circulating outside Dreven making the gears we citizens use almost worthless? I, for one, want more done. We embraced the Klockwork Master because he brought peace in a time where none could be found, and now he sits in recluse and leaves us all to our own? Where are the mighty armies stopping all criminals now? Perhaps we need not seek Taysayad at all for ruling our fair lands. Dug Minter
