While most of the regions of the Silver Moon Empire have local specialties, there are some things that are universal. The menu in the Crosswinds tends to stick to tried-and-true offerings that will appeal to a wide variety of palates:
Wild boar, mutton, venison, beef, wild game fowl (pheasant, goose, duck, etc.), fried fish, even elk, squirrel, rabbit, bear or goat could be the main dish, accompanied by bread, rice, biscuits, cornbread, potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, turnips, cheese, apples, grapes, berries, etc. Most meats would be roasted over the fire during the day for the evening's meal offering, which means only one or two items would be available on any given night.
Refined sugar is extremely rare; honey is used as a sweetener in baking, hot drinks and on bread or gruel.
Travelers who venture out of Shadokhan and into the other regions of the Empire could expect to find menus that fit what the local hunting and farming can produce:
Arboria: Cuisine in the elven forests relies heavily on forest creatures, tubers, mushrooms, herbs, berries and the like.
Balthazor: Rice is a staple crop in the land of the Necromancers; fish would also be plentiful, as well as grazing animals, berries, mushrooms and tubers.
Cloosidian: Such a mountainous region offers little in the way of grains; again, berries, some fish, and mostly hooved creatures like goats or sheep, as well as wild fowl.
Luminii: The land of the Vivomancers is fertile and supports many farms, orchards and vineyards; grains, vegetables, grazing animals, wild fowl, berries, grapes and other fruits would be plentiful for cooks in Luminii.
Oceanuus: The staple proteins here are fish and other sea-dwelling creatures. Since much of this region has a tropical climate, there are many exotic fruits and vegetables here that aren't found in the other regions of the Empire.
Thermador: Grains, pastas and meats make up the diet of most Thermadorans; such items keep well in the hot, dry desert climate.
Stone Stew - This doesn't have stones in it contrary to its name, but generally has the left over meats from the day before's meal as well as various vegetables and sometimes certain fruits. This is the stew that is normally served at the tavern when people ask for stew. This tends to be a very rich, hardy and thick stew and if very filling. Price: 5 copper.
Small Loaf - This bread is generally served with the stew. Loaves are usually made of a stone ground wheat and are dark in color. These are great with a bit of butter and honey. Price: 1 copper.
Fruit - The type of fruit will depend on what is currently available and in season. Price: 1 tenbit.
Cheese Platter - Cheese is always available and seems a popular choice for the local tavern goers. Served on a platter in small to moderate sized chunks, it's often ordered with bread or fruit. The types of cheese vary from day to day. Price: 1 copper.
Pastry - Varies depending on what's served for the meal or left over from the previous day. By popular demand, these can also be ordered separately. Price: 1 copper.
